Culture and Sightseeing
In the city of Füssen, as well as in the surrounding region, you can find many world-renowned monuments, castles, museums, and galleries.
Housed in the former Benedictine Monastery of St. Mang and surrounded by magnificent 18th-century baroque architecture is the Museum of the City of Füssen. Perched high above the city is the Hohes Schloß, or “High Castle” of Füssen. Once the summer residence of the Bishops of Augsburg, it is now renowned as the most well-preserved example of a late-gothic fortress and currently houses a gallery of the Bavarian State Collections of Paintings. Included in the castle’s grounds is the possibly highest-elevated castle-chapel in Germany, the Veits-chapel; a small tip for those planning a fairytale wedding!
In Füssen’s immediate vicinity are the world-renowned castles of the Bavarian King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau and Linderhof – visiting is an absolute “must-do”!
The Allgäu region offers many possibilities all year ‘round to make your holiday at the Maurus House unforgettable!
